Fashion:
“What is fashion?” Answering the question is difficult because it means different things to different people. Fashion, in general, refers to changes in garment style. Fashion is a style that occurs on a body or face or an appearance that varies from person to person, day to day, and from time to time. It primarily entails change described as a series of short-term trends or fads.
Practitioners and academics use the term “fashion” to refer to a broad industry that includes textiles, clothes, leather, knitwear, accessories, sunglasses, cosmetics, and jewelry. Fashion, in general, is a popular style or practice, particularly in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, physique, or furnishings. It is derived from the Latin word “Facere,” which means “to make.” We can simply state that fashion is an art form. Fashion represents a person’s emotions. It also refers to the most recent textile designer innovations. In this piece, I’ll explain fashion classification and detail each segment.
People have an innate knack for fashion. Both men and women enjoy beautifying themselves to appear more appealing and distinct. If a specific style is embraced by a sufficiently wide number of people over a sufficiently long period, it is referred to as “fashion.” Many different fashions can coexist.
There are numerous types of fashion, such as:
1. Style
2. Fundamental or traditional
3. Fad
4. Fashion Prediction
5. Trends
The fashion classification can be described as follows:
1. Style:
Style is unchanging. It does not change like fashion. It is the evolution of fashion. The essential outline of each piece of clothing is its style. It’s a way of doing something. It usually relates to one’s appearance or fashion. The term “style” is particularly common in the fashion industry. Style is unique, but it becomes fashionable when it is adopted by others.
2. Fundamental or Traditional:
It is called Basic or Classic when a fashion is comparatively constant or long-lasting or continuing for many days, such as saree and salwar kameez. The saree and salwar kameez are part of the fashion scenery. A customer has one or more in his wardrobe, to be worn to suit different occasions. In certain times, the basic becomes the most important promotable fashion, but, in or out, they remain a part of the fashion scene.
3. Fad:
A fashion designer’s fad is a more hazy term. Because it can make a designer’s life more intriguing or more stressful. Sometimes something new arrives on the fashion landscape that catches the eye, only to fade away quickly.
After all, a fad is defined as a short-lived fashion that lasts for a very short length of time and is acceptable to only a specific number of individuals. They are usually highly expensive, and not everyone can afford to buy them.
4. Fashion Prediction:
Fashion forecasting is the prediction of consumer mood, behavior, and purchasing habits based on anticipated trends. It is an integral aspect of the fashion scene because a new garment produced by a designer and worn will not establish fashion on its own. It is necessary to disseminate fashion through various channels. Fashion forecasting is often done by several communicative media, including fashion shows, films, newspapers, press, fashion magazines, and window displays.
Generally, fashion prediction includes:
a.Surveys of customers
- Informal in-store interviews
- Focus groups with customers
b. Market research
c. Fashion trends
d. Shopping e. Collection evaluation
e. Sales figures
f. Target market trends
5. Trends:
Fashion trend is the most fluid term in the industry. The styling ideas that big collections share are the same. Several variables impact fashion trends, including economic, political, social, and technological influences. Fashion forecasters can use this data to predict whether a trend will expand or decline. A new trend may arise in modest quantities before spreading to other collections. Because the media identifies and exposes similarities between collections, media exposure helps to build trends. However, if a new trend floods the market, customers may respond unfavorably to the overexposure.
